Empower the man to own the lake and you feed him for generations after him. – Rev Walter Mwambazi
Rev Walter Mwambasi on the stage of TEDx Lusaka, opens his topic, 5 Major Reasons Religion Is the No.1 Cause of Poverty in Africa, by talking about Karl Marx’s interpretation of religion as a tool to suppress, oppress and control the people by the elite.
To give context to his stand, Rev Mwambasi gives a brief introduction of who he is, a Christian, spirit-filled, tongue-speaking, charismatic, and evangelical minister of the gospel, whose spiritual journey started several years ago.
In all his years of tutelage and interactions with great thinkers and leaders, “the biggest lesson that I learned was how religion shackles people to personalities and institutions.”
It is a bitter irony to witness the relationship between our religious zeal and economic status. To the rest of the world, we are the third world. “Africans are the most fervent religious people in the world, and yet Africa has the highest number of poor countries in the world.”
If we really want to get rid of our third-world status then we need to “Empower the man to own the lake and you feed him for generations after him.
“Africans must learn the empowering truth and would no longer be in severe bondage of religion and its impoverishing hold. But instead, would see health for all citizens of this very rich continent.”
