The African Mind Has A Lot To Contribute

“The African mind has a lot to contribute, not only to world understanding of the arts, but to an understanding of spiritualism. That is the contribution Africa will make to the world of the future – an injection of sanity into the environment of the universe itself.” – Fela Kuti

Many have tried to put into words what it means to be African. Is it simply that the color of our skin is the color of earth? Are we Africans because our ancestors communicate with the spirits of the air, water and trees? Is our Africaness bound to our dark history of slavery? Are Africans only associated with all things wild and untamed? Are we Africans, only because that is the name they chose to call us?

There’s no definite answer. Nevertheless, the world is discovering a lot more about Africans. A people beaten but yet undefeated. They have come to know the strength that lies within our black chests.

Today, nations watch as Africa takes bold steps to make an impact in various industries. For instance, Morocco has made history in football. It’s only a matter of time before Africa takes center stage in world affairs. This dream can only be achieved when Africans learn to cultivate and harness the rich resources that Africa has to offer.
