Once upon a time, in a land of spices, camels, and vibrant markets, Morocco emerged as a majestic constitutional monarchy with a diverse and thriving economy. This is not a fairytale; instead, it is a glimpse into the life and duties of the future monarch of Morocco, Prince Moulay Hassan, who will one day be in charge of the economic destiny, prosperity, and inclusivity of the Moroccan people.

Who is Prince Moulay Hassan?
Prince Moulay Hassan was born on May 8, 2003. He is the elder son of King Mohammed VI of Morocco and his wife, Princess Lalla Salma. As the Crown Prince, Prince Moulay Hassan’s every step since he was a wee baby has prepared him to assume leadership and responsibility for the nation. He is expected to bear the royal name Hassan III when he ascends the throne.

n the course of his life, Prince Moulay Hassan has received a comprehensive education, both in Morocco and abroad. He completed his primary education at the Royal Palace School and had his secondary education at the Royal College, both in Rabat. He then attended the Collège Royal de l’Arc in Rabat, at the Faculty of Governance and Economic and Social Sciences (FGSES), an affiliate of the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University in Benguerir. He speaks several languages including Arabic, French, English, and Spanish.
The Charming Life of Prince Moulay Hassan of Morocco
The Crown Prince and heir apparent to the Moroccan throne lives a charming and luxurious life. His family owns 12 grand palaces and resides in four of them. The annual cost of maintaining their properties and cars alone is such an astronomical sum that it is best left to one’s imagination.
Prince Hassan may not be as popular as Prince Williams, the heir apparent of the British Throne, but at the present age of 19, he is probably the richest teenager in the world. His wealth comes from his father, King Mohammed VI of Morocco, who ranks as the richest King in Africa and one of the billionaires in the world, with an estimated net worth of $2.6 billion.

The King did not just acquire all his wealth from his inheritance, he also made profitable business decisions and investments that catapulted his wealth.
1. Al Mada: When it comes to investments fit for a king, King Mohammed VI established Al Mada, formerly Société Nationale d’Investissement (SNI), in 2012. This sovereign wealth fund focuses on strategic sectors, making economic growth its royal decree.
2. OCP Group: King Mohammed VI is profiting from the mining in his kingdom as well. He played a leading role in the OCP Group, a phosphate producer that is supreme in global markets. They mine, produce, and distribute phosphate-based products fit for a king’s economic feast.
3. MASEN: Ever heard of a king being a solar superhero? Well, King Mohammed VI dons his cape in the form of the Moroccan Agency for Solar Energy (MASEN). With the Noor Solar Power Station as his shining achievement, he’s illuminating the way toward a brighter, greener future.
4. Tourism: The crown jewel of Morocco’s economic success is the tourism industry. When it comes to showcasing Morocco’s majestic wonders, King Mohammed VI takes the throne. The kingdom is something out of the Arabian Nights and worth paying a visit. With his visionary initiatives, he has transformed the tourism sector, ensuring that international visitors flock to the country like loyal subjects, captivated by its rich history, vibrant cities, and awe-inspiring landscapes.
The Weight of The Crown
There are levels to being rich and the royal family of Morocco are a class on their own. The Prince has traveled all around the world and has met with various dignitaries. Of course, to help him carry out his duties in a timely fashion around the globe, his father bought him a Gulfstream G650 jet which is fitted with a $20 million Israeli J-Music missile defense system. The prince may very well be on a first-name basis with your presidents and ministers.
If you assume being born into royalty is like hitting the celestial jackpot, then you’re right. But, hold on to your tiaras and smelling salts because Prince Hassan’s wealth and lofty position come with their own set of princely dues or what I like to call the price of royalty.
Prince Hassan has shouldered the weight of the crown from a very young age, when many children are living happily and carefree.

If the Netflix Series, Queen Charlotte, has taught me anything, it’s that the mind of the person that wears the crown is greatly burdened. After having been in the eyes of the public for so long, one cannot but wonder how the public scrutiny has shaped his entire personality. His childhood, compared to that of his sister, Princess Lalla Khadija, is quite different, and a far cry from a “normal” childhood of freedom, spontaneity, personal growth, and exploration. As an adult, he is more watched and scrutinized by many eyes. So no wild parties at the palace for the Prince.
The Duties of Prince Moulay Hassan
The Prince, despite the challenges, has embraced the journey with determination and dedication. His life is not all glamor and indulgence. He is well known and loved by the people of Morocco and the public opinion of him all over the world is both positive and admirable.

While specific details about his official duties may not be widely disclosed, we have been privileged to witness his public life from a very young age. As such, here are some general expectations and roles of the Prince of Morocco:
Representing the royal family
Prince Moulay Hassan represents the Moroccan royal family at official events, ceremonies, and diplomatic functions. These include attending state visits, national celebrations, and international forums, where he represents Morocco on behalf of his father, King Mohammed VI. In 2019, he presided over the opening ceremony of the 14th International Agricultural Exhibition (SIAM) in Morocco. He also attended the funeral of the late French President Jacque Chirac, in Paris.

Participating in public engagements
The prince will likely participate in various public engagements, including meetings with government officials, foreign dignitaries, and ambassadors. He participates in cultural, social, and charitable events, promoting and supporting various causes and initiatives. He made his first official royal appearance in 2015. In December 2017, he was the youngest participant at the One Planet Summit in France, and this was where he gained international recognition and accolades. His participation was well received by foreign dignitaries, especially the French President, Emmanuel Macron.
Preserving national heritage and traditions
The Prince of Morocco is expected to promote and preserve the country’s rich cultural heritage and traditions. This may involve participating in cultural festivals, visiting historical sites, and supporting initiatives related to Moroccan arts, crafts, and folklore. Although the Prince is mostly formally dressed in a suit and tie, there are several occasions he has attended, wearing traditional Moroccan attire; a long caftan and a round skullcap. In any case, he carries himself as a symbol of the culture of his people wherever he may be.

Supporting youth and education
Prince Moulay Hassan may have a particular focus on initiatives related to youth development and education. This can include promoting educational reforms, supporting educational institutions, and encouraging youth empowerment and engagement in various fields.
Future monarch preparation
As the heir to the throne, Prince Moulay Hassan is likely being prepared for his future role as the monarch of Morocco. It’s important to note that the specific duties of the Prince of Morocco may evolve and expand over time, depending on the circumstances and decisions made by the Moroccan royal family.
As we marvel at the enchanting tale of Morocco’s royal lineage, we are reminded that being born into royalty is not merely a celestial jackpot or a privileged position. One thing is certain—the future monarch of Morocco carries the hopes, dreams, and aspirations of an entire nation. His life serves as a testament to the dedication, sacrifice, and preparation required to assume such a noble role.
