Chop Breakfast

Chop Breakfast is another slang from the stables of Nigeria that makes its way into the world’s lingo.

Chop breakfast was first heard in a song by Burna Boy, a popular Nigerian artist and it

literally means we will all (eventually) have breakfast.

In Nigerian Pidgin English, it means “Dis life na turn by turn” a.ka. life is in stages. And regardless of circumstances, everyone will have a taste of everything—the good, the bad and the ugly.

Interestingly, it is also tagged with heartbreak. For example, if you hear a statement like, “Last Last she don chop breakfast,” ( which means she has finally been served breakfast), it  could mean she’s suffering from a heartbreak.

Omo this King beside me on this train just chop breakfast sha… see the long breakup message “My Queeeeen” sent to him 😩… baba is drunk already…just dey rant. Fear women o pic.twitter.com/j81Fsde40I

But the popular phrase, which is used by everyone, which was actually part of the lyrics in Burna Boy’s song is, “Everybody go chop breakfast,” (which literally translates to everyone will eat breakfast) and could mean, everyone would be served their own humble pie.

So after seeing this NOTICE, you still believe in the Supreme Court ???

So, the next time you hear the word chop breakfast being used, be sure to ask in what context, and if it’s something hilarious, do have a good laugh.
